Legal Permanent Resident

This process is also known as a “Green Card”, and corresponds to a permit that the United States grants to eligible immigrants who are offered the benefit of being able to work and live legally in North American territory.

How to get it

» Immediate family member of a US citizenHE

In this case, the immediate relatives of a US citizen are eligible, such as a spouse, unmarried children under 21 years of age, or parents of a US citizen who is at least 21 years of age.

» Non-immediate relatives of a cityU.S. year or lawful permanent resident

In the same way, children who are over 21 years of age are eligible, regardless of whether they are single or married to US citizens; the siblings of a US citizen who are at least 21 years of age; the spouses of lawful permanent residents; children who are under the age of 21 of lawful permanent residents; and unmarried children, regardless of age, of lawful permanent residents who are at least 21 years of age.

» Fiancés (and their children) of a US citizen
  • Person admitted to the United States as fiancé(e) of a United States citizen through K-1 US Citizen Fiance Visa

  • Person admitted to the United States as the child of a United States citizen through the K-2 visa.

» Widowers of a US Citizen

You are able to apply for permanent residence if your US citizen spouse died and at the time of death they were still married.

» VAWA applicants who are victims of abuse or cruelty
  • Spouses abused by a US citizen or by a lawful permanent resident.

  • The abused children (whether unmarried or under 21 years of age) of the US citizen or legal permanent resident. 

  • Father or mother abused by an American citizen.

» Jobs with EB-1, EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visas

» Physicians with national interest exemption and immigrant investors

Immigrant investors under an EB-5 visa who have invested or are in the process of investing at least $1 million or $500,000 in a United States employment or business start-up

» If you are a refugee or asylum seeker.
» Victims of human trafficking and other crimes
  • If you are a victim of human trafficking, you can request a T-visa.

  • If you are the victim of other crimes you can request a U-Visa.

» The Diversity Visa Program
  • If you were selected by the Department of State visa lottery to obtain a diversity visa.

» Through the Cuban Adjustment Act
  • If you are a Cuban citizen.

  • If you are the spouse or child of a Cuban citizen

» Through a Sponsor or Employer Applying for a Green Card for You
